DESCRIPTION:ATV Safety Field Day Classes\n\n \n\nMay 4th (PM) and June 8th (AM & PM) classes at WACC\n\n \n\nHackensack\, MN   THREE ATV SAFETY CLASSES AVAILABLE: An afternoon ATV Safety Field Day Class is scheduled in Walker for Saturday\, May 4\, 2024\; and Two ATV Safety Field Day Classes are scheduled in Walker for Saturday\, June 8\, 2023\, AM & PM. They are a cooperative effort of the Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Woodtick Wheelers ATV Club. The classes will be held at the Walker Area Community Center (WACC)\, 105 Tower Avenue. Morning class is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon\, and afternoon classes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Classes begin with classroom instruction and written quiz\, followed by the outside riding obstacle course. Please arrive 30 minutes early to allow for unloading ATVs\, check-in and registration.\n\n \n\nClass requirements: Prior to the class\, students must complete the online ATV self-study safety course at www.atvcourse.com/usa/minnesota/. After completing the course\, students are required to print out their ATV Safety Voucher and bring it to the hands-on safety class. Those attending the class should provide their own Class 1 ATV (if they do not have one\, a youth size ATV is available to use)\, wear long pants\, long-sleeve shirt\, gloves and boots (no tennis shoes or flip-flops) and bring a DOT-certified helmet with goggles or face shield. Parents must sign a parent-release form and attend the class with their students.\n\n \n\nClass pre-registration is required. For ages 10-11\, the certificate becomes valid when they reach their 12th birthday. Students ages 12-15 who complete this course are able to legally operate ATVs with these restrictions: The operator must fit the machine\; must make a direct crossing of a public road right-of-way\; and operate on state lands and frozen waters\, only when accompanied by a person 18 or older who has a valid driver's license. Adults who are new to ATV riding are also encouraged to take the class. The Minnesota DNR reports a rise in the number of injury accidents among older adults who are riding ATVs for the first time.\n\n \n\nIn addition\, anyone born after July 1\, 1987\, and is 16 years or older\, must complete the online ATV safety course before operating an ATV on public roads and trails\; the Hands-on ATV safety class with riding portion is optional.
